Jacks 1st Birthday, Telford Town Park and the Sealife Centre

Jack has recently turned one. 365 glorious days of nappy changes, milk feeds and interrupted sleep. Where does the time go? I look at Jack now and see a toddler who has started walking and exploring, gaining independence in its earliest forms . One year ago I had a newborn who relied on me for his every need.

This week we had a lovely week celebrating with Jack. Wayne had a week off work and we planned a couple of lovely days out. The week didn't start too smoothly as a stomach buy rampaged it's way through our house. Our house doesn't seem able to steer clear of illness at the minute so it's a pattern we are unfortunately getting used to.

As Wednesday approached though, we were better and went to Telford Town Park for Jacks Birthday. My Nan and Grandad live in Telford so as a youngster I visited the park lots. The weather was glorious and myself, Wayne and my sister Faye had a lovely time visiting Wonderland with Jack. Wonderland is a childrens attraction where you can see nursery rhymes and stories come to life. I did think Jack may be too young for it, but he loved walking around and met Snow White and Red Riding Hood on the way around. He was too young for the rides but loved stopping for a play in the soft play area. He was super excited about visiting the ball pit.
All that walking tired everyone out so we stopped for a meal at the Harvester and then went shopping to pick up some clothes for Jack. We then went to my Mom and Dads for tea. They had brought Jack a Fireman Sam birthday cake (his fave.)
On Thursday we went into Birmingham for the day and visited the Sea Life Centre. We went first thing to avoid the Easter crowds and managed to get a queue free visit in! Jack loved watching the water and seeing the different coloured fish. He loved looking at the Penquins, spending the majority of the time waving at them! We got some gorgeous snaps of the family from the photographer there and had such a lovely time.
Aside from our fun days out we also cleaned the house from top to bottom. I don't think you want to hear about how I cleaned my carpets though, so I'll leave it there!

Juggling Motherhood and Life

I'm seriously tired. Scrap that. I'm exhausted. I have never felt so run down in my life.

So I may be going a bit over the top but this is a feeling that lots of mom's (and dad's) can relate to. My little boy has been ill hence the inconsistency of my blogging. I feel like we lurch from one illness to another at the minute. From bronchiolitis to teething to gastroenteritis. Poor little guy! He started projectile vomiting just under two weeks ago. I truly felt like my heart was being broken into tiny pieces as he stood there sobbing in the bathroom. He came up in a viral rash and what followed was three of my toughest days as a mom. Despite being reassured by a doctor, I couldn't help worry about his lack of appetite and his desire to drink. He is thankfully over it now but kindly passed it on to me, Wayne, my Parents and pretty much all of our family.

It's made me realised just how hard it is (for me at least!) to juggle being a mom with all the other things going on in my life.

I dedicate my day to Jack but with him in bed at seven, I loose all enthusiasm for all the other chores. How do you guys juggle the house and a baby? Feel free to let me now as really I should just get on with it! I work nightshifts part time twice a week and am constantly on the move. My house resembles a creche and I struggle to keep on top of housework never mind the ironing.

I need the motivation to make the most of my free time. I currently find myself vegging out in front of the TV and not really getting a lot done. I try not to be hard on myself here as I know I need free time BUT I need to get my house back on track.I also struggle to find quality time to spend with Wayne. We are both Musicians and have various commitments that leaves us limited alone time.

Any advice on how you guys juggle you life as a mom? I'm sure some of you will just say get on with it so I'm going to stick up the ironing board and stick on Gogglebox.

The Mummy Tag

I love reading different tag posts. I feel like I'm getting to know the person behind the blog and try and read these sort of posts regularly. Currently my entire life revolves around my son Jack. Yes, I get occassional free time (where I think about Jack) and work part-time (still thinking about Jack!) but first and foremost I'm a mom. A mom to an adorable little boy who is currently refusing to nap, to sleep at night and to let me get more than 2 feet away from him.

I came across this mummy tag post on Oh So Amelia's blog. It was from a while ago but I thought I'd go ahead and give it ago. I'm tagging all you mummy bloggers - I'd love to hear more about your lives. Here we go then.....

1. Are you a Stay at Home Mum, or a Working Mum?

I stay at home Monday-Friday looking after Jack whilst my other half works. I then work Friday and Saturday nightshifts. I'm tired but it saves childcare costs and works best for my family.

2. Would you have it any other way?

I loved my years maternity leave. I got to watch my little boy blossom from being a newborn to now nearly a toddler who is starting to walk. I needed to return to work and wanted to go back to my current company, thankfully a nightshift position was available. This fits best around my family as either me or Wayne can look after Jack whilst the other works. We are currently working on our work/life balance and making sure we have family time. This works best for us!

3. Do you co-sleep?

Not intentionally! Jack tends to settle well in his cot of an evening but around 1am wakes up. We spend time trying to resettle him in his cot but sometimes he comes in with us. This is not ideal and we in the long term really need to work on this. Sometimes we just give in as we are so exhausted!!

4. What is your one must-have item for your baby?

Sophie the Giraffe. This is a teething toy which literally has worked for Jack when nothing else has. We are currently on our 2nd Sophie as they do wear.

5. How many kids do you plan on having?

I plan on having 2 children. Not right now, but sometime in the future!

6. Date night? How many nights per month?

We don't often go out or have specific 'date nights.' Instead we just try to have some time on the sofa with the TV on of an evening.

7. Your childs favourite show?

This is a tough one! Jack loves Fireman Sam and Peppa Pig but one particular episode of Postman Pat has him mesmerised. He is not interested in any other episodes though.

8. Name one thing you bought before you had your baby and never ended up using?

Scratch mittens. I couldn't get them on and when I eventually did Jack just took them back off again!

9. Your child’s favourite food?

Jack loves mashed potato. He will eat it with vegetables and meat. He also loves banana, petit filous and custard. Obviously not together!

10. How many cars does your family have?

I don't drive so we only need the one car. We have a Ford Focus. A family car with lots of room in the boot.

11. Weight gain before pregnancy, during and after and now?

I gained 2 stone during pregnancy. I was overweight prior to having Jack so although I have lost the 2 stone, I still have some weight to lose. I joined slimming world in December and have lost over a stone so far!

12. Dream holiday with your kids?

When Jack is older I would love to take him to Disneyland Florida. I've never been but my other half went when he was younger and loved it.

13. Dream holiday without your kids?

I couldn't imagine going on holiday without Jack. I'm not even sure I'd enjoy the time without him, I miss him after an evening apart. I have always wanted to go skiing though so I wish I'd have done that!

14. How has your life changed since your baby has been born?

Life changes immeasurably when you have a child. Where once I was all I had to concentrate on, I now have a small child. Life's changed for the better. Even on a hard day, I wouldn't have it any different. You never really realise how much you could love another person until you have a child.

15. Finish the sentence: 'It makes my heart melt to see..

Jack laugh and smile.

16. Where do you shop for your kids?

I really like Mothercare, Next, Zara, H&M and Morrisons in particular. Good value and good quality clothes. I stock up on Next items in the sales.

17. Favourite makeup and skincare products?

A day I get the time to apply my make up is a good day. I love No. 7 products. They are great drugstore products. I also love L'Oreal products.

18. Huggies or Pampers?

Pampers. We started with the Newborn Nappies and have since used the Baby Dry and Active Fit. I have never used anything else.

19. Have you always wanted kids?

Yes. I have been in a long term relationship since the age of 16. I absolutely love children and always enjoy playing with my younger relatives.

20. Best part about being a mum?

I love how Jacks face lights up when he sees me and the hugs and kisses i receive.
