July Round Up

Whilst I write a variety of content on my blog, I very rarely update you on my day to day life. I regularly talk about family days out and other parenting related topics but sometimes forget to talk about the smaller things - my favourite book for instance or a moment that I particularly enjoyed. Recently I read a post written by Laura from Edinburgh Life With Kids that I really enjoyed. It was a post where Laura reflected on the past month of her life. It made me feel like I was getting to know the person behind the blog and is something I think would be a nice addition to the content I write.

Where I've Been...

July has been an incredibly busy month in the Doughty/Miller household. The end of June/beginning of July was spent on a family holiday in Spain with Wayne's family. With myself and Wayne both usually working opposite shifts in an attempt to juggle childcare, it was a chance for us to spend some quality time together.  I don't think I would ever describe a holiday abroad with a three year old as relaxing but it was a lovely break away which we all enjoyed. My favourite memory of the holiday was Jack swimming and enjoying the water. Water has been a phobia of his for some time so seeing him splashing around and playing with his cousins was lovely to watch. When we arrived home we started taking him to swimming lessons which I'm really happy to say that he is enjoying.

This month has also seen us make the usual trips to the Park and Soft Play. A place that Jack adores and I tolerate.

What I've Been Watching...

Has anyone else been absolutely addicted to Love Island this month? From the viewing figures it's obviously not just me! I watch this every year and this year lived up to my high expectations. Although my favourite (Camilla) didn't win, I still enjoyed the drama of the show and particularly loved the Kem/Chris bromance.  I managed to fall around 10 episodes behind whilst on holiday but caught up quickly. I've no idea what I'm going to watch now it's over. Though I do think Wayne will be relieved to get the TV back.

What I've Been Reading...

As an avid book reader, you may be surprised to hear I haven't really been reading any books this month. I'm marathon training at the minute so a lot of my free time has been invested in training. I have been reading Runner's World and Women's Running though. Does that count?

Marathon Training...

Whilst serious marathon training kicked in this month, so did a chest infection. This alongside my holiday to Spain has really affected my training. I've managed to get in most of  normal runs plus a few long runs this month. I'm now up to 10 miles so only another 16 miles to get to on top of that. I'm slightly behind where I want to be so this month exercise has to be a focus for me. Thankfully I'm feeling lots better so no more excuses.

Jack's Favourite Things...

We've started having a family movie night on Sunday evenings this month. It's a way of making sure we have some time to just relax as a family. Sunday is our only evening as a three so it's a new thing that we hope to make into a routine. We watched Lego: Batman with Jack this month. It's safe to say that he absolutely adored it. Since then Jack has acquired (I may have brought..) a Batman Cape and some Batman Lego.

Lego is taking over my house currently and alongside the cars/trains/planes/helicopters and emergency vehicles that Jack loves playing with, has become a firm favourite. It's got to the point where I've been looking up Lego Instructions on Pinterest. So far I have found instructions on how to make a dinosaur and an aeroplane.

What have you been up to this month? Let me know in the comments below.
