36 WEEK PREGNANCY UPDATE

I am 36 weeks pregnant and have made it into the last 4 weeks of pregnancy. I have just started my Annual Leave which will connect to my Maternity Leave. It has been lovely being at home over the Easter period and making our last memories as a family of three before becoming a family of four.

HOW FAR ALONG?

I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant.

HOW IS BABY DEVELOPING?

Baby now weighs nearly 2.6kg (5.7lb) and at just over 47.4cm (18.7in), she's a similar length to a Romaine Lettuce. At the end of this week my pregnancy will be considered full-term, meaning she is ready to be born any day.

Baby is continuing to shed what's left of her downy lanugo hair and vernix caseosa, the protective substance that covers her skin. She’ll swallow this hair and skin and store it in her bowels as meconium. This meconium will become her first poo.

HOW AM I FEELING?

Tired! Now I finally have the due date in sight, I’m really beginning to struggle. I’m feeling fatigued with everything feeling so much harder. Over Easter I visited Drayton Manor Park on a 2 day short break and I really struggled with all the walking. My pace has significantly slowed and I feel quite faint/dizzy and achy when standing for prolonged periods. My sleep has continued to be disrupted as I am waking up every time I need to adjust my sleeping position.

HAD ANY APPOINTMENTS RECENTLY?

I had my 34 week midwife appointment two weeks ago. My urine and blood pressure came back fine to my relief. The Midwife struggled to find babies heartbeat with her Pinnard initially however baby was moving around it so thankfully we knew she was fine. The midwife then swapped to the Doppler to find her heartbeat and found it straight away. Even though I knew she had been moving - it was still a worrying few seconds!

Position wise baby now seems to be in a breech position. After having a Caesarean section with Jack I was hoping for a VBAC this time around. I was upset when I realised she was no longer head down but there is still time for her to move so fingers crossed she has by my next appointment.

I have a consultant appointment on Friday as well as an appointment with the VBAC specialist. Hopefully they will double check babies position during this appointment and we can then figure out what kind of birth we are looking at.

If you are pregnant I would love to hear how you are getting along. Leave me a comment below!

  2. It's an exciting time. Not long now until baby arrives. Glad the weather has cooled down a bit for you. Pregnancy is hard at the best of times but harder in the heat. Hope it all goes smoothly xxxx

    1. I'm just grateful to not be having a baby at the end of the summer. It must be such a struggle in that intense heat.

  4. Pregnancy amazes me. I think our bodies are amazing as they allow us to grow a little baby from a tiny egg into a foetus; it really is fascinating, a wonder of nature!

  5. You’ve made it further than me as my daughter was born at 34 weeks as I was rather ill. I remember the tiredness you are feeling. Hopefully the next couple of weeks will go by fast and you’ll soon have your little arrival and forget all about it x
