38 WEEK PREGNANCY UPDATE

I am 38 weeks pregnant and am nearing my due date. I finally have packed my hospital bag and babies bag too. With my maternity leave officially starting this week, I’m counting down the days to her arrival!

HOW FAR ALONG?

I'm currently 38+2 weeks pregnant.

HOW IS BABY DEVELOPING?

Baby now weighs over 3kg (6.8lb) and at just over 49.8cm (19.6in) is the length of a leek.

Baby is now ready to enter the world and is spending her final weeks inside of me building a layer of fat which will help her control her body temperature when she finally arrives. All her organs are well developed, though her lungs will be the last to reach full maturity.
The white, greasy lanugo that has protected her skin in my womb (uterus) is now almost gone..

HOW AM I FEELING?

I’m counting down the days to the little ones arrival now. I’m very tired and am feeling very very pregnant. I’m waddling everywhere and am just generally finding these final weeks quite difficult.

I’ve been having Braxton Hicks contractions on and off for the last few evenings. They tend to occur around the same time every evening but then just stop. I keep hoping it might be labour but it definitely is not. She will arrive when she is ready and not before!

HAD ANY APPOINTMENTS RECENTLY?

Last week I had a bit of a pre-eclampsia scare after suffering a bout of high blood pressure and some protein traces in my urine. I was waiting to see if there was an issue with the exact amount of protein in my urine but thankfully all was fine.

I returned to the hospital on Thursday where my blood pressure was once again checked. Both that and my urine both came back fine which means I now don’t have to see my community midwife until my 39 week appointment.

A quieter week for me this week - thankfully!

If you are pregnant I would love to hear how you are getting along. Leave me a comment below!
